Federal Public Defender Offices were established under the Criminal Justice Act of 1964. The Act codifies the Sixth Amendment establishment of the right to counsel in criminal cases. It guarantees that persons who are accused of federal crimes but are financially unable to afford counsel will receive the same, high quality representation as accused persons who are financially able to pay for representation themselves.
Our clients are supported by a team of experienced trial and appellate lawyers, investigators, social workers, paralegals, and IT specialists. Our mission is to vigorously enforce the constitutional right to counsel for every client and to give each client a voice, regardless of the charges, and regardless of their national origin, race color, gender, religion social or political beliefs. We are appointed by the court, and from that point on, we stand with our clients through the duration of their cases, including appeals post- conviction matters.
